Did you know that Iloilo is one of the provinces with many “Firsts” in history? I didn’t know until I started stepping stones to adventure.

Iloilo marked my first domestic flight and gifted me with countless memorable firsts along the way.

1. First time seeing a plane in front of meee

Healing my inner child be like. I was so happy to see the plane in front of me

2. First time eating at Tatoy’s (welcome dinner)

After 16 hours of fasting, dining at Tatoy’s completely satisfied my appetite. And to top it off, I was multitasking and working while enjoying my meal!

3. First time attending WordPress Iloilo meetup

It was incredible to attend a meetup outside of the one we organized in Manila. Connecting with people from various parts of the Philippines was truly inspiring, especially those who are actively giving back to their communities.

4. First time attending a WP event as an attendee

This truly shows how many Filipinos are committed to giving back to their communities, no matter where they are. I’m incredibly grateful and proud to be part of this amazing community.

5. First time eating at Bario Inasal

The food was really amazing. I remember Dan and I are literally looking at each other with every bite. We even asked for extra rice. And I would love to fly to IloIlo just to dine at Bario Inasal 🙂

6. First time drinking coffee at Madge and getting acid reflux

I am a coffee lover and I never thought that coffee would give me acid reflux. The coffee is delicious. I was just not ready.

7. First time trying Pancit Molo

This food is a must-try when you visit Iloilo.

8. First time eating a cake named Choco CHUCHU

The cake’s name was so funny! At first, we thought Spencer was just joking. I mean, who names a chocolate cake CHUCHU? 😄 But overall the cake is delicious.

9. First time putting my phone in any available place (even in public) to record myself walking

I’m usually shy and introverted, and I’m not big on taking pictures. But for the first time, I just put my phone down and took photos of myself—even though I made sure no one was looking! It felt a little awkward, but also kinda fun!

10. First time visiting ILOMOCA and Museo Iloilo

Pro tip: When traveling and visiting museums, it’s best to go early in the morning. Fewer people, just you, and all the art and history to enjoy peacefully.

11. First time traveling around the city on my own

Since high school, I’ve always dreamed of traveling to different places, especially visiting old churches. Sadly, I couldn’t go inside the church this time because I was wearing a skirt. But I still had so much fun visiting museums and historical sites, and reading about their stories. I might not remember everything, but I’m happy I got to learn more about Iloilo and its history.

12. First time walking at Iloilo Esplanade

I went to the Iloilo Esplanade early in the morning for a refreshing walk, and I was amazed at how long it stretches! Spanning an impressive 9 kilometers along the Iloilo River, the Esplanade is one of the longest linear parks in the country. I never realized it would be such a long walk, but it was a beautiful experience, surrounded by lush greenery and the calming view of the river. It was the perfect way to start the day!

13. First time riding a modern jeepney without any plan on where to go

I’m the kind of person who usually gets lost, so when I travel alone, I always study my route to avoid it. But this time, for the first time, I hopped on a modern jeepney without overthinking and got off wherever I felt like it. It was such a fun experience!

14. First time experiencing the longest delayed flight (3 hours and 28 mins)

This is my first domestic flight and who would have thought I would experience such a delay? Well, Air Asia gave us a meal as compensation.

Travel is more than just a journey to new places; it’s a chance to discover parts of the world—and ourselves—we never knew existed. Thanks to the WordPress community, I’ve learned that adventure isn’t just beyond the desk, but in every step we take toward the unknown.

Cheers to many more journeys of exploration and growth.

Travel dates: July 26 to July 29, 2024.
